Bump on Cheek after lower facelift. Will they diminish with massage? (Photo)

Question

I had a lower facelift and lower blepharoplasty done Feburary 2022. I have a bump under my left eye and a large round bump on my right cheek. I was told by my PS that I should rub them. I've been doing that at least 3 or more times a day (the under eye for 5 months and the cheek for 3 months) They are not getting better. I would like to know if you think they will diminish with massage or if I need someone to correct them?

Thank you for this question! A bump can be caused by a variety of conditions. Soon after surgery, it can just be asymmetric swelling. Over time, a bump can be caused by a ball of scar tissues. Like your surgeon suggested, massaging the bump is a great way to start treating it. If the bump is caused by scar tissues, sometimes I would offer patients a steroid injection directly into the scar tissue, which is intended to break up and soften scar tissues. Talk to your surgeon and ask him/her about different treatment options.

Most likely they are just suture granulomas which need to dissolve away with a little kenalog injection and massage together.  Massage often isn't enough by itself.
