I have very curly long(er) hair (about 7 inches long). Is it possible to have an unshaven or partially shaven FUE to the crown? Does the recipient site have to be shaved completely? How long until one can safely use a concealer such as TOPIK post surgery? Finally, is it realistic to have such a procedure for 2000 grafts?

Answer: Partial or no shave FUE First of all, there is at least in my practice no need to ever have the recipient area shaved, so existing hairs can be left in place to help cover up the healing grafted areas for the first week while it is healing. As far as donor areas- in addition to doing the traditional "shave" FUE, I offer both a partial and no shave FUE approach. With the partial shave FUE, usually the lower back of the head is shaved. With the no-shave approach, each individual follicular graft is first trimmed of its hairs, then the graft removed. This is NOT done by shaving tunnels of scalp, because that results in horizontal "bands" of harvested areas that will look abnormal if the hair is cut short.

Answer: Unshaven FUE With hair as long as you are describing, probably the best bet is to pin up the donor hair, and extract in the region underneath to give it camouflage. There is no need to clip the recipient area.
