Silhouette lift vs mini lift?

Question

I've been considering a silhouette lift to address mild sag in my jawline/cheek area and banding in my neck, but a mini lift seems to be in the same price range and with longer/better results. Am I wrong to think this? What would sway me to choose one procedure over another? I understand the silhouette lift might help with volume because of collagen production, but fillers can do the same post mini lift?

To choose between a silhouette lift and mini lift, I tell my patients that you have to understand that there is one procedure that is minimally invasive which is silhouette soft, whereas with mini facelift, you will have scars around your face and have downtime as well. You will be off social network for about 5-7 days. If you can afford that, then mini lift will give you much longer lasting results. But if you cant afford a down time and are not willing to undergo a surgery or have any kind of scars, silhouette soft facelift is the best option for you. Consider a board certified plastic surgeon near you who can examine you and suggest the best procedure for you.

Thank you for your question.  The Silhouette Lift consists of small entry points made in your skin by a needle.  There is no scalpel used.  No incision scars.  This is all good news if someday you might need or want a formal facelift/necklift.  You can also receive another Silhouette Lift a couple years after the first if you are still not ready/not a candidate for a facelift  The material is the same that we use with Sculptra injectable.  Often Sculptra patients will come back every few years for a touch up.  Volume can also work well with other modalities, (Juvederm, Volluma, etc.).  The choice between modalities depends on how much these issues bother you, how aggressive you want to be, and your anatomy.   Again, one should do a proper history and physical exam to see if you are a candidate.  Best to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon or Otolaryngologist, (ENT).  They will be able to let you know what might work best in your case, (Silhouette Lift vs. Fillers vs. Surgery), as they do all of the above.  Please call with any questions.Jeffrey J. A facelift is optimal for repositioning lax skin and the underlying muscles of the mid to lower face, jawline and neck. It does not regenerate your collagen but often with proper and artistic surgery the sagging fat will be placed in a higher position which assists in contour restoration. A facelift is the best surgical procedure available for those seeking facial rejuvenation that is longer lasting. The recuperation takes a few weeks, there is minimal discomfort but the potential risks and complications are greater than the Silhouette Instalift. These can be minimized but with proper care and surgical finesse. The end result is a natural appearing youthful face. The Silhouette Instalift also repositions and lifts sagging skin along with fat. The optimal areas of emphasis are on the lower face, jawline and upper neck. The absorbable threads and attached cones stimulate your collagen after being placed beneath the skin through tiny pin sticks, in areas that have been made numb. The Silhouette Instalift is ideal for mild to moderate laxity of the skin or for those individuals who wish a remedy that is almost immediate or for those not desirous of surgery. It is not the best option for major laxity of the neck tissues or for significant jowl formation. There are minimal complications with the Silhouette Instalift and most activities can be resumed quite soon after the procedure. Both facelift and the Silhouette Instalift are superb for lifting and contouring the face. The choice between the two should be made after a consultation and evaluation by your plastic surgeon. This is a great question!  It puts into perspective the differences between surgery and minimally invasive options.  The SI will add volume and actually, by increasing collagen production, make your skin thicker and healthier.  The mini face lift is a surgery and will have the scars to prove it.  Plus when you think about what you are actually doing is pulling old skin tighter over bone.  The effect will be very different...which is why people start to not look like themselves any more.  I love doing the SI.  My patients are more then happy with the results!

Thank you for your question. Silhouette InstaLift is a minimally invasive procedure that can be done in office with no downtime. However, a mini lift has longer lasting results. Which one is better for you depends on your symptoms of facial aging and your cosmetic goals. I recommend getting a in person consultation with a board-certified dermatologist.

There are pros and cons to both procedures, but one big benefit of the Silhouette InstaLift is that there's very little downtime. Remember too that the skill of your cosmetic surgeon is going to be the primary factor in seeing the best possible results for either procedure, so take your time to find an excellent one. On the other hand, the results are less drastic and do not last as long compared to a surgical facelift.
