Question

I want to shorten my philtrum and give my upper lip some volume. I’m 49 and do not want any visible surgical scars and don’t like how unnatural most lip fillers look. I’m not looking for a drastic change, just a more youthful appearance. I’m interested in a V-Y lip advancement. Would this procedure give me what I’m looking for? Who performs this surgery in Houston? Thanks.

It appears that distance between nose base and lip border is longer than acceptable. Any form of lip lift providing that it ends up with well hidden scar will do. Sometimes flaps from the nose base may be used to augment philtrum columns. Good luck.

The distance between your nose and upper lip is too great and your upper lip is very thin.  The technique I recommend is a lip lift.  A lip lift does 4 things: shortens the distance between your nose and upper lip, increases the mucosa of the upper lip, increases the incisor show and pulls up the corners.  The procedure takes less than 1 hour to perform under local anesthesia and costs $3,000.

A V-Y procedure upper lip procedure will absolutely NOT work to achieve a shorter upper lip with some increased vermilion fullness. That procedure works best in patients who have a normal skin distance between their nose and upper lip and existing moderate vermilion thickness....neither of which applies to you. Short of procedures that directly work on reducing the vertical skin length (subnasal lip lift, lip advancement) there are no other options.
