Are estheticians allowed to perform micro needling?

I have been recommended by a few plastic surgeons as well as estheticians to get micro needling for my pitted acne scars. However, I thought that estheticians are not allowed to penetrate the skin at certain depths. Am I better off seeing a doctor or esthetician for micro needling?

Microneedling can g=be done at home or by aestheticians. However, I recommend that you get it done by a physician if you are seeking deeper microneedling with PRP for best therapeutic effects.

Thank you for your excellent question. That is determined on a state by state basis. You should check with your state licensing agency/board of cosmetology to determine if estheticians are allowed to treat.

first off, microneedling doesnt help pitted ice pick type scars --- these respond best to punch excision, TCA cross or a combination.  Second off, acne scarring requires a combination approach of lasers, needling, and fillers.  I suggest you only see a board certified dermatologist who is an expert in acne scarring treatments.  Best, Dr. Emer.
