Areolar vs inframammary incision for implant removal and en bloc capsulectomy?

Question

I have around 223cc silicon implants on each side. I've talked to 2 surgeons and one told me areolar incision is the only way surgeon can see well enough to do a good en bloc capsulectomy while the other told me inframammary incision is the only way to completely get the capsule out. So now I'm confused. I feel like whoever I ask will simply tell me the technique they use is the best way for a complete capsulectomy. I am just looking for an unbiased, objective answer. Thank you!

Find an American Board of Plastic Surgery board certified plastic surgeon who is skilled in all four breast implant incision techniques (inframmary, transaxillary, transumbilical, nipple), so that he/she can determine the best option for you after an in-person exam and discussion of the pros and cons of each option. To prevent another scar, the areolar or IMF incision could likely be used for implant removal and en bloc capsulectomy.

it is hard to tell for sure without an examination. Generally speaking, it is possible to remove implants using the same incision without creating new scars. If you are considering a surgery, I would suggest you to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon. Only after a thorough examination you will get more information and recommendations.

Both techniques can be utilized.  I prefer to remove through an incision in the inframammary fold (bottom of the breast as it attaches to the chest wall).

I prefer an inframammary fold (IMF) incision for en bloc capsulectomy and implant removal in most cases unless a patient's areola is very wide. It also depends on the size of the implant, as a larger implant with the capsule would be harder to get out en bloc thorough a periareolar incision. Good luck.

Each surgeon will have his/her preference of incisions based upon your previous scar, anatomy, size of implants, and experience. Personally, I use either incision. I would suggest using the surgeon you are most comfortable with during the consultation.
