Hi, I am 27 years old and have had implants (325cc hp). I want to reduce them to 200cc. Should I wait after having children?

I was originally 32B and wanted to be 32C... unfortunately, I am now 32DD (same brand for all sizes mentioned). I want to go back to 32C assuming that my breasts might get larger after giving birth. Should I reduce the size now? I am planning to have kids hopefully in two years. What are the pros and cons?

The results of the breast revision may be compromised if it is done before pregnancy. Many women undergo breast procedures to restore their breasts to the way they looked prior to pregnancy.  Therefore, if you experience weight gain, pregnancies, or any other drastic body altering changes, it is very possible the results may be compromised.  Hence, it may be best to delay your procedure(s) involving the areas affected by pregnancy, weight gain and nursing until after your final pregnancy if at all possible or predictable.

If your breasts change significantly with pregnancy, and especially if you breast feed, you may lose a lot of the nice appearance of your breasts.  I'd do surgery now only if you are having problems with your oversized breasts now.

It is very hard to go down in size and maintain a nice look.  If you are going to have children your breasts are going to change and you might need surgery after that.  I would wait.  Have your children.  Think about what you want then.

A 200 cc implant is a very small implant.  If you are really considering having children soon and  want to be smaller I would almost just take them out now which is an easy procedure and then start from scratch after children when you see how they have settled and changed after breast feeding.

Hi, LaurenUnless you have a significant problem with your current breast size, I would wait till you have completed having babies.  With pregnancy, our body (including breasts) will fluctuate and change in size and shape.  If you decide to undergo implant exchange now, you may need a revision surgery after pregnancy.  Please visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon to learn about pros and cons of your options.Best regards,

If nothing else but an implant exchange is done (for smaller size), then it is very likely that the breast will begin to droop.  Volume losses of the breasts, whether from weight loss, post-pregnancy hormone changes, or changing to smaller implants, will often result in breast drooping of some degree.  Your options are: 1) doing a breast lift with the implant exchange, 2) accepting the drooping that will likely come from the implant size reduction, or 3) postpone breast surgery until after you finish having children.  Keep in mind that pregnancies and breast feeding also can significantly change the size and shape of your breasts.  Make a decision based upon the timing of future pregnancies vs your immediate interest in reducing the size of your breasts.  Best of luck!

Most of the time we wait to do any surgery if you're planning on having kids because your body will no doubt change afterwards.  However, you could consider doing one of a couple things now at relatively little cost.  1. If your current implants are saline, you can deflate them in the office, so that your breast volume goes down.  2.  If they're silicone, then you could consider just taking them out for now.  If you're a DD, the reason I might suggest you considering one of those 2 options is that over time, the heaviness of the implant will stretch out your tissues, and it will lead to you needing a lift/reduction, which is more complicated.  If you take a very simple route to decrease your breast size now, you could potentially perform just a simple augmentation later, with a smaller implant than your current ones.  Obviously this discussion needs to be had after a formal evaluation and examination.

Unless you have significant concerns about your breasts now, or think you will during pregnancy, I would advise you to wait on undergoing any further elective breast surgery until you have completed pregnancies.
