For upper and lower abdomen smart liposuction, how many and where are incisions made?

Most cases start with two tiny incisions in the groin region left and right. Sometimes that's all that's needed. Standard liposuction cannulas are about 13 inches long (30-35cm) and they reach pretty far. Sometimes we add an incision in the umbilicus. Other times we add tiny incisions beneath the breast creases - especially for high definition lipo.

For any type of liposuction, including SMARTLipo, there are several incisions made. Typically 3-5 Incisions are made along the lower abdomen. To reach the upper abdomen an incision is typically made in the umbilicus (belly button). This umbilicus incision is usually placed slightly inside in order to camouflage it. Normally, the scars from a liposuction or SMARTLipo procedure are imperceptible as early as 3 months following the procedure.

For starters, incisions for Smart Lipo are very small only needing a single stitch if at all. Scarring is rarely an issue. But to answer your question, one option may be to work on the upper abdomen through an entry point in the umbilicus.

Thank you for your question. There are numerous approaches to a Abdominal Liposuction. Some surgeons make two incisions in the pelvic region only. I believe you can get better results with addition incisions in the Peri umbilical area and one in the upper mid abdomen if necessary. These incisions allow the fat to be attacked from multiple vectors resulting in a smoother contour of you abdomen. I hope that helps answer your question. Good luck on your journey!

Hi Shaemass, Most of the time, we perform 2 abdominal incisions in the pubic area and one in the umbilicus. From there we can reach all of the abdomen. There are different-sized cannulas, so, that´s usually feasible. In special circumstances, we place an incision in the inframammary fold as well.

The number of incision made during abdominal liposuction depends on the preference of the Plastic Surgeon. In my opinion, generally speaking, no more than two incisions are necessary. One being in a bellybutton and one somewhere in the pubic area where it heals easier and is can easily be concealed with the hair. There is absolutely no need for compression garments in such liposuction procedures with patients being able to return to the gym in just three days and go to the beach and swim in the ocean in approximately one week. For the front of the abdomen one umbilical scission two groin incisions are pretty standard.

Surgeons can reach all the way from the groin to the inframammary fold on the chest while if they have quality equipment in appropriate lengths.

I don’t see why anybody would skip using the umbilical approach since it is by far the most forgiving in regards to scars.

Personally I don’t like to partially treat the torso and typically treat the entire torso if I’m treating the abdomen. Treating only the front of the abdomen and ignoring love handles, waste and back leaves people with an unnatural fat distribution that is less than ideal.

No matter how well it’s blended it tends to not give quality results in comparison to treating the entire torso.

In the end choosing the most talented and experienced surgeon will by default give you the best results with appropriately placed small incisions.

Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe.

I wouldn’t make a point of choosing smart Liposuction over any other form of equipment. The equipment is somewhat insignificant when it comes to liposuction results and there really is no actual skin tightening from the laser.

Instead focus eye or efforts on finding the most talented and experienced provider.

What differentiates quality results and everything that comes with them including where and how incisions are made is all based on who does the procedure.

Find the right plastic surgeon and everything falls into place.

Liposuction are permanent and irreversible. worst case scenario leaves people disfigured or worse.

Minimize the chance of having undesirable outcomes by being ruthless in your selection of providers.

Do that by having multiple in person consultations at which time ask each provider to show their entire collection of abdominal liposuction results. asked to see examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and less than outcomes. Ask providers to show as many before and after pictures of patients with similar body characteristics to your own as possible.

An experienced provider should have no difficulty showing you 50 or more sets of abdominal before and after liposuction pictures.

Highly experienced providers will have hundreds to thousands of Liposuction before and after pictures.

Ask specifically what Arias were included and what areas were not treated. Look carefully at transition zones between treated and on-treated areas.

Make sure after pictures are always taken at least three months from the date of the procedure.

I recommend reading all reviews on all major physician review websites avoiding providers with any significant number of justified negative reviews.

The absence of justified negative reviews is more important and more telling than having an abundance of positive reviews.

When in doubt slow down and schedule more consultations.

Most plastic surgeons think they are better at liposuction than they actually are.

To master this procedure takes years and doing thousands of cases.

The cannulae used in liposuction are quite long and can reach from pubis to ribcage. If only the abdomen is being lipo'ed, a 5mm incision in the suprapubic area and 2 flank incisions will allow for adequate liposuction of the abdomen and flanks, including the soft tissues above the umbilicus.. Cannulae can be 25 cm (10") long. Although the incisions usually heal quite well and are quite small, they are placed in areas usually covered in public.
