Should I have a myomectomy before or after lipo 360 for best results?

Question

I two large fibroids that are contributing to my abdominal girth and I have been approved for a myomectomy (non laparoscopic) meaning I will have a fairly wide scar above my pubic bone (approximately 4" from what my surgeon tells me). I also want to get circumferential liposuction. Is it ideal to have and be fully recovered from lipo before having a myomectomy? I have read about some patients getting a weird "pooch" above the pubic scar. Thank you.

The more important question is the reason for the myomectomy. If it is for heavy periods and bleeding then it would be best to do the myomectomy first since with the heavy periods it depletes your body of nutrients for healing. Also, the scar from the myomectomy may be used for access ports for the lipo 360 and if there is a pooch after the myomectomy then it can be addressed at the same time!

I recommend you have the myomectomy first.  It may change your contour and the pattern of liposuction needed.

The Myomectomy is definitely a surgery you need and that should be fine first. After 4-6 months and fully recovered from that procedure, then you may get done safely the liposuction. After a beautiful result, you don’t want  that anything may ruin it.

It mey be in your best interest to do open myomectomy first, followed with liposuction; reason is that if you end up with "bad scar" it can be revised during liposuction by your plastic surgeon. Otherwise, you can have liposuction followed with myomectomy. Hope this helps. Good luck.

When patients ask me if they need to have elective surgery before or after a surgery to improve her health I always recommend to put her health first, in your case I will like to say also myomectomy need to be first of a lipo 360, your recovery is more quick and help you also to less have any complication at the moment you have any elective surgery and also help you to avoid to have heavy menstrual bleeding in your 360 lipo recovery.

Deal with the fibroids first then this is a medical issue than can cause a lot of bleeding with your periods and anemia. Once healed, then get liposuction if you want.

I recommend you have the myomectomy before having liposuction 360 for best results. 
You indicate that the fibroids are contributing to your abdominal girth and it is best to remove them before liposuction.  I agree some people do develop a small "pooch" above the myomectomy scar and this can be addressed at a liposuction procedure after the myomectomy. 
Finally, fibroid removal is done for health reasons, and liposuction for cosmetic reasons.  It's best to address health reasons first, and then have the cosmetic concerns addressed.

Have the myomectomy performed first.  You will want to fully healed from that procedure before then having liposuction.  Your surgeon will help you determine the best timing based on how you are progressing through recovery.
