I am scheduled to have lipo 360 and arm lipo on December 2. I have good bmi very healthy. I just want to get rid of stubborn fat that won't go away despite diet and exercise. Where I am going is putting me under general. I've been under before for breast augmentation and had no trouble. Should I be worried about risk? If I'm 33 healthy good bmi don't smoke quit drinking a month before surgery and am Taking vitamin c folic acid should I still be worried about risk or is it extremely rare?

Answer: Getting liposuction soon, I be concerned about risks involved with general anesthesia? Thank you for posting your question. All surgical procedures involve some risks, regardless of using general anesthesia or not. I believe it is more important to be mindful in choosing your surgeon and his team, making sure they are board certified and have a good safety record. General anesthesia is not always necessary but it is also not a problem, it is a tool we have at our disposal. Generally speaking it is used to make the procedure safer. During 360 liposuction for example, liposuction is performed on the back. This is usually done with patients laying their tummy. So, when patients are sedated and laying on their tummy for an extended period of time, it might be easier and therefore safer to take care of the patient’s airways with general anesthesia. This means that if the anesthesia department considers general anesthesia as a better option, I feel there is no need to be afraid of it. Best of luck, Dr. Miguel Mota

Answer: Liposuction in general anesthesia It is a standard to do liposuction of torso (360) in general anesthesia. Considering that you already had that type of anesthesia for breast surgery, I do not expect more risks with this one. Confirm this with your surgeon and anethesiologyst. Good luck.
