8 hour flight after Lipo BBL?

Hello and Great Question. I appreciate the time you are spending researching this procedure. My name is Dr. Matthew J. Nykiel. I am a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, a Fellowship Trained Cosmetic Surgeon, and a Butt Augmentation Specialist.
At our practice we have out of town/state patients all the time.  My post-operative protocols will different from practice to practice so the best answer to give you is to ask your PS personally his/her recommendations. I instruct my patients not to sit on their butt for 1 solid week. After 1 week to 5 weeks we provide them a specialized pillow and a sitting protocol.

My recommendation would be to find a surgeon locally. Complications can occur after this 8 day period, and it is much more difficult to deal with these if your surgeon is on the other side of the country. As others have stated, you should also avoid sitting for at least 2 weeks after surgery. Lastly, long airline flights can increased your risk of developing a blood clot right after surgery. I instruct my patients not to sit for 2 solid weeks. We provide them a specialized pillow that our patients can sit on during that time. They can sleep on their stomachs or sides. Fat viability depends a lot of surgeon technique. The fat has to be placed back into the buttocks as soon as possible so that it has a greater chance of survival. It has to be placed carefully so that not too much fat is placed in only one area.
I understand your concern. It is best that you consult your plastic surgeon regarding post operative care and management (i.e including massage techniques and timing) specific to your case. Your surgeon knows your condition well and has preferences on when and what to use for faster healing and recovery. Post operative care and management depends on the type of surgery performed and the technique used during surgery among other factors.It is best, however, that you follow your plastic surgeon's advice on post operative care management for a smooth and faster healing and recovery.

Thanks for the question and provided information as well.
I recommend my patients to wait at least 10 days before flying back to home, and you should not sit for more than 30 mins. every two hours, for the first 2 weeks. If you have any concerns, I suggest you to follow your plastic surgeon's protocol.

my recommendations is that you're not traveling for elective cosmetic surgical procedures. Patients do not appreciate the importance of follow-up care, the complications actually do happen and how many people end up needing some form of revision.  Your questions should be properly answered by your provider.  The real self is a poor substitute for pre-and post op care relating to surgical procedures.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
