I'm 9 weeks post op from a BBL and still experience nerve pain. Should I be concerned?

Loss of sensation (numbness) or increased pain (hypersensitivity, hyperalgesia) on light touch, garment pressure, is a result of postoperative nerve (sensation) recovery. Multiple small nerve endings are damaged in the course of any skin surgery including liposuction. After surgery these nerve buds are recovering and growing back. This can be experienced as a numbness or hypersensitivity, pain like feeling, sometimes present on the same patient in different areas of treatment. This improves in time. Massage and touching of painful areas to train your brain how to perceive this feeling (desensitization)  is one of the ways to deal with this phenomena; using pain killers like Tylenol and ibuprofen will help as well. Thank you for your questions. Without an exam it is going to be hard to help understand your situation. Some type of nerve discomfort can take 3-6 months to resolve in certain cases. I understand your concern. It is not uncommon to feel some pain or discomfort at this stage of recovery process. However, without a proper assessment it would be difficult to determine what is wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment. Only after thorough examination you can get proper recommendations and advice.

i'm not sure what you're referring to when you say nerve pain. I suggest following up with your provider, hopefully a board-certified plastic surgeon, who can discuss your progress and address postoperative concerns.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
