I'm wondering how frequently I can microneedle. I heard that for longer needle lengths, I should wait for longer between the sessions, but I'm wondering if I can also use shorter needles in between. For example, if I schedule for microneedling with 1.5mm 4 weeks apart, can I still use 0.25mm or 0.5mm weekly while waiting for the next session? Thank you.
Answer: Microneedling The purpose for using the microneedling is important to giving guidance. I recommend using other adjuncts rather than increasing the frequency of microneedling. The most important step in skin care is sunscreen; I recommend Pavise which lasts for 6 hours and blocks more UVA than any other sunscreen. If the goal of microneedling is to improve skin quality, then I suggest using a tretinoin cream every other day (you may be able to work up to every day) to thicken the collagen in the dermis of the skin. This will also minimize wrinkling. A daily vitamin C based topical product would also be helpful. Using Moxi (fractionated superficial laser treatment by Sciton) is fantastic for mild resurfacing of the skin, however following post procedure recovery instructions is critical to healing well since the skin can be easily damaged by the sun while healing. Sciton also has a profractional treatment which is highly effective. If the goal is skin tightening and/or wrinkle reduction, deeper fractionated lasers or full ablative lasers are highly effective, however they are not appropriate for all skin types. Another option is a medical grade peel. There are different depths depending on the current quality of your skin. If the goal is to increase deeper facial collagen, Sculptra is a reasonable option. Nanofat and/or exosomes can help facial tissues to heal themselves. Adequate hydration, exercise, avoiding smoking+alcohol, and limiting high glycemic index foods also slow aging.
