Will taking an allergy medication such as Zyrtec or any anti-histamine 2 days after CoolSculpting affect the results?

Will taking an allergy medication such as Zyrtec or any anti-histamine prevent results from cool sculpting? I took my allergy medicine (generic over the counter) 2 days post the procedure and am am worried that it will hinder my results. I was told not to take any anti inflammatory medicines in the post procedure instructions.

Thanks for your question. Allergy medications like Zyrtec will not hinder the healing process or affect your results after a CoolSculpting treatment The reason some doctors advise you to refrain from nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen or naproxen is due to their ability to exacerbate bruising after treatment. Most doctors encourage patients to take Tylenol for any post-treatment comfort instead, since acetaminophen does not have the same effect. I hope this helps!

Rest assured that allergy medication will not affect the results of your CoolSculpting treatment in any way. The device delivers controlled cooling to your fat cells, causing them to crystalize so they can be eliminated by the body. This process will not be impacted by the use of antihistamines.

Some physicians ask patients to avoid anti-inflammatory medications after a CoolSculpting treatment.  Anti-histamines, such as Zyrtec, are not anti-inflammatory, so it would be fine to take these after CoolSculpting.  Anti-histamines will not affect the results.

Should be no problem and may provide some relief from the itching and swelling some experience.  Also, I am not aware of any firm evidence that anti-inflammatory medications like motrin well lessen the results.  The freezing programs the cell to die over the next few months.  While we prefer Tylenol, some people really hurt after Coolsculpting and a small amount of motrin can help.  Most aesthetic physicians do not recommend prescribing narcotics.
