i recommend all patients over thirty five have a screening mammogram prior to augmentation. Younger patients who are at higher risk for breast cancer should also be screened. Before resuming mammography after augmentation, you should allow for the breast tissue to return to its normal state, usually at least three months.
Thank you for your question. Although post operative instructions do vary from one plastic surgeon to another, I do recommend waiting 6 months after breast augmentation before having a mammogram. Best of luck.
Mammograms of newly augmented breast can be done around 3-6 months after surgery. The timing of this procedure depends on the recovery of the patient and settling of the implants. Discuss with your plastic surgeon for the best recommendation related to you specifically. Good luck.
I recommend my patients to wait at least 6 months after a breast augmentation every surgeon has different protocols, best to consult with your PS.
I recommend for my patients to wait at least 3 months after breast augmentation in order to have a mammogram.Dr. Ted Eisenberg, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon and Author
Thank you dayamica for your question. Typically I tell my patients to wait a minimum of 6 months to do a mammogram. This will typically be enough time for healing to occur after the surgery and to also not be too uncomfortable. I would recommend you check with your surgeon on his or her protocol. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for sharing your question. If you are needing a routine surveillance mammogram I would allow your augmentation results to settle for 6 months. This will allow maturation of your breast results and make the procedure less painful. Hope this helps.
Dayamica,For a routine screening mammogram, I typically recommend after 3 months postoperatively. Of course if there are oncologic concerns Mammography/ultrasonography/ or MRI take precedence over the cosmetic implications.I recommend discussing this question in detail with both the mammogram prescriber and your surgeon. Together your physicians can better determine which course of action is best for you.
Typically waiting six months after a breast augmentation is appropriate for a routine mammogram. Follow the guidance of your plastic surgeon. Best wishes.Karen Singer, M.D., P.A.Harvard GraduateBoard Certified Plastic Surgeon
I would recommend waiting 6 months after your procedure to have a new baseline mammogram. Hope this helps!
