I used to have a heart murmur as a child. As an adult, I don’t. Can I still get a mommy makeover?

As of 21 years of age, no doctor could hear the murmur. I am now 30 and I want a mommy makeover bbl,TT, BL w/augmentation. I’ve had no further heart issues. I am overall healthy and I’ve had two kids. Am I a good candidate for these procedures possibly?

mino.bch.  Many women have benign heart murmurs secondary to so-called mitral valve prolapse and it appears yours has gone away on its own. If there is no history of any medical problems or heart disease, you should have no issue undergoing mommy makeover surgery. However I recommend that you stage your surgery and have the BBL either before or after the mommy makeover. It’s much safer. Be sure to consult with a board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck.

Your question is very thoughtful and important. It sounds as if your heart is fine, but I would see a cardiologist before your surgery to make sure your heart is normal. As a surgeon, safety is our primary concern. There are risks with any surgery and these risks are elevated if there are preexisting medical issues. If everything checks out, you would be considered a surgical candidate for this procedure.

best advice you can receive is from an in-person consultation.  Safety should always be the number one priority.  If you are able to obtain medical clearance from your cardiologist, then you may safely proceed forward with a mommy makeover.   This decision should
be based on a detailed discussion with equal input from both you
and your surgeon.   Make sure you specifically look
at before and after pictures of real patients who have had this surgery
performed by your surgeon and evaluate their results.   The most
important aspect is to find a surgeon you are comfortable with. I recommend
that you seek consultation with a qualified board-certified plastic surgeon who
can evaluate you in person.

Mommy makeover consists of a tummy tuck with or without liposuction and a breast rejuvenation. The breast rejuvenation can be either a breast lift with or without the placement of a breast implant or just a straight breast augmentation. Consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon is the best way to determine all your options. At the consultation, they will complete a set of measurements on your breasts-this is to determine if a lift (mastopexy) is necessary for the best aesthetic result and also to determine the size of implant to chose, if you want additional fullness.  They will also examine your abdomen to determine if liposuction is necessary. With the tummy tuck, the surgeon will repair the diastasis of your abdominal muscIes. I encourage you to be at your ideal weight before proceeding with surgery, to get the best aesthetic result.
At our practice, we have found that those patients who have chosen to have a mommy makeover, have a very high satisfaction rate and have a boost in their overall self image. Typically with any history of cardiac issues, your surgeon would require medical clearance for you to have surgery.

Heart murmurs in children are very common and usually innocent.  If you have no murmurs in adult and you have no cardiovascular or pulmonary issues and can work out regularly without problems and have been through a physical evaluation, there should be no issue greater than the general population.  I hope this has been helpful.

If you are healthy you should be able to undergo a Mommy Makeover.  Your surgeon may request that you receive clearance from a cardiologist just to ensure there is no indication of abnormalities.  I recommend visiting with a board certified plastic surgeon in your area for a consultation to learn more.

Yes, a childhood murmur should play no effect in whether you have surgery or not. Be sure to let your Plastic Surgery know about this and all of your medical conditions and then they may want you to have medical clearance. But overall it sounds like you should do very well! This would not prevent you from having surgery.  Most plastic surgeons will, at a minimum, make sure that an internist has examined you to ensure you have no unknown medical conditions and those you know about are well controlled prior to surgery
