Facelift surgery while on antibiotics for UTI

Aloha, your situation can be a difficult dilemna for both surgeon and patient.  Both want to have the best possible results with the lowest risk.  That being said, consider the risk of complication for your procedures, and the fact that cosmetic surgery is always elective.  Although your UTI will likely be cleared with the antibiotics, we usually advise waiting until your health is restored optimally and would consider rescheduling your procedure several weeks after being symptom free and lab test clear.  Don't risk your safety and results just to meet a schedule.  Best wishes for your procedure.

Call your surgeon's office now.  Do not wait to the last minute when you are in crisis.  The more notice they have that there is an issue with your clearance.  Get their guidance.  They recommend rescheduling the surgery for a time when you hare likely to be fully healed from your bladder infection.

Uncomplicated urinary tract infections are exceedingly easy to treat as the antibiotics concentrate in the urine. You should be clear prior to surgery, but I think you should communicate this with your plastic surgeon. I doubt that he or she would alter your surgery or treatment course, but they would appreciate being informed.

This is a bit of conundrum. I understand that you've booked the surgery and are ready for it to happen. And yes, your UTI may be cleared up by your surgery date. But infection is not something that you want to mess around with as it can cause serious complications. So, it may be best to postpone your surgery until you are completely healthy. 

It's always best to go into an elective operation when you are at your best from an overall health perspective. That being said, a minor UTI should be cleared by two and a half weeks. If you are still dealing with a UTI or if you are ultimately diagnosed with a complicated UTI, it may be prudent to re-schedule your elective face/neck lift. Make sure you communicate this with your plastic surgeon to get his or her input as well. Open dialogue between you and your surgeon is important both before and after the operation.

I would prefer that you had finished your antibiotics prior to surgery. While rare, you could set yourself up for a more difficult infection to treat associated with your face lift surgery so it would be better to finish the antibiotics and have clear urine prior to facelift surgery. best of luck

I would expect an uncomplicated UTI to resolve on the antibiotics you are taking. As long as there are no systemic symptoms such as fever, chills, fatigue, you should be good to go by the time your surgery date comes around.  That said, communicate what's going on with your surgeon so he/she and the staff can be prepared.

Good luck and I hope that the UTI clears with the second antibiotic.  Although the risk of post surgical infection with a facelift is extremely low, I would not perform elective surgery on a patient with a known active UTI.

Contact your surgeon as soon as possible.  He may suggest you postpone the surgery until you are cleared of the infection.  Facelift is an elective surgery and should be done when the patient is well and healthy.
