Can the non-invasive treatment procedures ultrasonic cavitation and laser lipolysis be done together?

The mechanism of action is different- I am curious if they would hinder efficacy or if secondary laser treatment would speed the emulsification. ALSO, how long until all the cavitation bubbles lyse the available adipocytes? If practitioners will not allow both treatments together, I would still appreciate professional theoretical insight how they would interact together.

It is important to understand terminology as it relates to FDA-approved devices and technologies. Ultrasonic cavitation is a general term, not a specific treatment. Liposonix is a device that uses intense focused ultrasound to destroy fat cells in a specific layer, using a thermal mechanism. That produces both fat reduction and tightening, so no laser would be needed. The reason why Liposonix uses the specific frequency, energy, and focusing mechanism that they do is because it can be more precisely targeted and the effect on fat cells is well studied. It is done in a single treatment. Cavitation with ultrasound is more difficult to control and focus.

Theoretically combining treatments will give you a better result.  It is not known if this is safe, at least not in the medical literature.  I typically would have patients wait for one treatment modality results to take effect, before considering another.   I wish you the best of luck, Dr. Emer.
