Hi all, I am 24 years of age and first started noticing thinning hair at age 19-20, till gradually they reached a point where the center of my scalp has nearly dead hair. I cannot style them and they grow painfully slow. I have attached photos of my hair, 4 months after I shaved my head and you can see my sides have grown fine but the top is very thin. I consulted a board certified hair surgeon and he said I can proceed for a FUE procedure and would require 3500 grafts.
Answer: Stability of Hair Loss Pattern and Hair Transplantation Your hair loss seems to have reached the Norwood 6-7 stages. At this point, there are not enough donor grafts remaining on your scalp. Efforts to extract hair follicles from your head would only result in an issue known as donor depletion. In other words, efforts to acquire hair from the scalp to cover the bald regions would only result in additional regions of sparseness and hair loss in the donor regions. At my practice, the Dr.U Hair and Skin Clinics in Los Angeles, we see cases like this quite frequently. And since we’ve engineered our own technology to successfully extract body hair to serve as permanent grafts, we are able to utilize this as a resource to create the desired end coverage for severely bald, Norwood 6 and 7 individuals which would otherwise be considered impossible to restore using conventional hair transplant methods. Please view the article below for further reference.

Answer: 24 years old Hello and thank you for your question. I understand your frustration and lack of patience. The problem here is you are very young, you’re going to continue to experience hair loss. You have a very fine line to walk...you want/need a transplant but you have to be very careful to not use up your donor area as you might need future procedures. You really need to consult at least 2 doctors to get different opinions and decide who you trust the most and it acting in your best interest. Don’t listen to someone who tells you what you want to hear, listen to someone you trust. I wish you the best.Dr. T
