Four days ago I had a mole removed from my face. I am doing the right thing and covering the wound with vaseline and band aids. The mole used to have black hairs growing out of it, and they are still growing through the wound. Should I pluck these hairs out as the skin heals? Or should I just let the skin heal before plucking? If I do it now will it stop hairs growing through the scar once it's healed? Or could it make the scar worse? The area is still very tender, so plucking seems very painful!

Answer: Hair growing after mole removal
I recommend that you don't pluck these hairs, as doing so may cause additional inflammation and add to any scarring that results from the procedure. It sounds as though you've had a shave removal of the mole, which will help to flatten the mole that was there but will not remove all the hairs from the area.
Allow time for your skin to heal over the wound, and after that you can resume plucking the hairs. In the meantime keep the wound moist with vaseline, and you can use bandaids over the top if you wish (bandaids help keep the vaseline from getting on clothes and fingers). If you wish to have the hairs removed permanently in the future you have the option of laser hair removal or of surgical excision of the mole.
Good luck!

Answer: Hands off...
first let the wound heal...and at this point the band aid is more likely to cause problems, so ought to get rid of it...if the hairs persist after healing, there's always laser hair removal...if the area is still dark (suggesting part of the mole still remains) then you can have the whole area removed and sutured...this would get to the "root" of the problem and eradicate both the mole and the hair...
