Alopecia and DLE. Is it advisable to have a hair transplant? (Photo)

Hair transplant surgery is generally not recommended because it may not grow with your medical condition.   If you are determined, some doctors may do a small "test" surgery to see if the transplanted hairs may grow.

Unfortunately, patients who have DLE do not respond very well to hair transplant, so you have to make sure that you choose someone who has very good experience with patients who suffered hair loss from autoimmune diseases.   Furthermore, many patients who have lost hair due to DLE will not have enough hair left over to cover the areas which need to be treated adequetly. 

I likely would not
recommend any procedure, without first having a test procedure where 100 or so
grafts are transplanted then observed for 12 to 24 months for regrowth.

Discoid lupus often does not respond well to hair transplant surgery. You will want to see an experienced hair transplant surgeon to assess if you have enough donor hair and to fully understand how much coverage you can obtain with surgery. (You can only cover a portion of your scalp)Also you will want to see a dermatologist to determine if your discoid lupus is "quiet" or not and to determine if you have any other coexisting scarring alopecias (such as frontal fibrosing alopecia). I recommend that a hair transplant for discoid lupus should only be done if the condition has been quiet (inactive) for 2-3 years.

This can not be treated with a hair transplant because any active disease will kill the hair transplant. An alternative treatment that works terrific is scalp micropigmentation (see sdb site below)

If you have Alopecia or any time of immune deficiency problem, it is not advSiable to do Amir transplant as it may not grow.
