Since putting on my compression garment I am In such severe burning pain. Will my result be affected if I remove the garment?

Am 24hrs postop mastopexy w/ aug, Upr abdominal lipo & tummytuck Scar revis. Sinc puttin on compression garment Im in severe burning pain. Its mostly on my abdomen incisions & also feels like my breasts r being pushed up uncomfortably high & its hard 2 breath. Will my result b affectd if I remov the garment? It stops just below my breasts & is only partial done up due 2 pain. Advice on how 2 get sum relief wud b much appreciated. I hav been prescribd Endone but scared to use.

It is very important that you wear your compression at all times, I would recommend you loosen it up just a little, but it has to be low and snug, 24 hours is just too soon to remove this is when you need it the most, follow up with your PS.

Sorry you are having so much pain, but you definitely need to be compliant with the garment. It will affect your result if you do not wear it. With that said, I would advise you to follow up with your surgeon and hopefully he or his staff can assist you with making it more comfortable. Not all garments fit the same on patients and sometimes it means finding something that works well without causing so much discomfort.

The short answer is yes, your result will be affected. It is very important to wear a compression garment after lipo or tummy tuck. The reason is that the surgical space likes to fill with fluid after surgery. This fluid is what we call a seroma, which is one of the most common problems patients have after a tummy tuck. The compression garment prevents this fluid from accumulating by closing down the surgical space. If you have concerns about the garment or your pain medication you should speak with your surgeon. Each of us have our own specific postoperative protocols in regards to garments and pain control, so you should follow his or hers.

Compression garments should feel supportive, not tight.  If yours is not fitting correctly I suggest speaking with your surgeon.  A mommy makeover is a big surgery.  Most patients need prescription pain relievers for at least a week.  If they were prescribed for you it is safe for you to use them as directed.
