Labs should be done 1 month before surgery:1) This helps surgeons know your status closer to the time of surgery.2) Knowing the blood count right before liposuction is very important.3) For patients over 50 or with heart issues, an EKG should be done within 6 months of surgery if no changes have occurred.Labs are part of the process in getting patients ready for surgery. It’s best to get the labs closer to the time of surgery so your surgeon has an accurate snapshot of your health right before surgery. If any abnormalities are noticed, your surgeon can work with you to correct them.Good luck and thanks for the question!
This will depend upon what other medical conditions you may have, but one month before is a reasonable period of time.
This is something your surgeon will instruct you on. For my patients I have them get their lab work done right after their pre operative visit which is 2 to 3 weeks before surgery. Good luck!
I advise patients to have blood work no earlier than 3 months and no later than 2 weeks before surgery. In cases where things are more urgent, blood work can be done as late as 3 days before surgery.
Thank you for your question. Most Labs are valid for a period of 3 months and its recommended to get them done at least 1 month prior to surgery. Combination procedures can give powerful results but SAFETY is KEY. You definitely have to choose your surgeon correctly and make sure that he/she has the training and experience to meet your goals with absolute safety. Don’t settle for less than a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon with specialized expertise in this procedure.
Dear wrenfrances, every plastic surgeon has his own preoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgical practices will vary when it comes to specific preoperative instructions. Instructions may also vary depending on the specific patient's past medical history. In our practice, any necessary lab work is generally checked 3 to 4 weeks prior mommy makeover surgery. Best wishes.
The timing between preoperative testing and surgery vary depending on the patient's condition and the practices and preferences of the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and operating facility. For a young healthy patient undergoing a low risk procedure, no preoperative testing may be needed at all. Other patients may find that testing within the past 6 to 12 months is acceptable. For patients with more significant medical conditions, or at the discretion of any of the involved physicians, testing within as recently as 30 days may be indicated.
Please contact your plastic surgeon to ask them their routine. As you see from the answers below each physician is comfortable with different time frames for lab work. The only way to know what your doctor prefers is to ask them. Best of luck.
You will want to have lab work completed within the month before surgery. Check with your surgeon to see which labs are needed. You will need a physician's order to take with you to the lab and results are usually back within a week. Good luck with your surgery!
