Past Medical issues that can prevent me from being a tummy tuck candidate?

Hello. Great question. I will suggest getting clearance from both your cardiologist and neurologist. Having achieved that, I will suggest having a personal examination with a board certified plastic surgeon for a detailed surgical plan to achieve your desired results.

You do need clearance from your cardiologist and periperative precautions are possibly with blood thinners but it should be safe.  I have operated on a couple of patients with a similar history including a physician.  One thing you can look into are the advantages of doing the procedure with sedation and local anesthesia rather than general anesthesia.  That significantly reduces the risk of blood clots.

You may be a good candidate for a tummy tuck. Getting cardiac clearance is important considering your past medical history. There are also things we do for higher risks patients at the time of surgery which would be done in your particular case- Like giving a blood thinning shot prior to surgery.  It is up to a particular surgeon to determine whether they feel comfortable operating on you with an increased risk of post op complications and whether you are okay risking another blood clot from an elective surgery. 

Safety is always the number one priority in surgery, however having a complicated medical history does not necessarily exclude you from being a candidate for a tummy tuck. Getting medical clearance from your specialists is a good place to begin. You can expect that if you are deemed a candidate that extra precautions will be put in place to ensure safety. One example could be having the procedure performed in a hospital versus a surgery center.

You may find that some surgeons may choose not to operate on you regardless of the clearances.
