Is swelling normal after a capsulectomy and new implant?

Is it normal to have swelling still? Yesterday was the first day I was somewhat active, and I felt swollen by the end of the day. I haven't lifted anything heavy, but I just feel very swollen. Is this abnormal? The breast feels soft to the touch but it is more swollen today than it has been at any point. It isn't riding high. I'm almost 2 weeks post op. I have felt some small shooting pains about 3 times. I'm no longer on painkillers. Should I take a Motrin?

Dear humblegirl,Thank you for your question. Swelling at 2 weeks post op is very normal. Swelling can last for several months. It is best to follow up with your operating surgeon if you have any concerns/ what medications are now okay to take. Best of luck with your healing!

Every patient has swelling after a capsulectomy that can last for months.  That being said the cavity the implant sits within can fill with fluid after capsulectomy and your surgeon should check you just in case,Motrin should not be a problem but you should question your doctor first.

Dear humblegirl,I understand that you are worried about the swelling. However, you are still in the early phase of the recovery period. Please do allow some time for the healing process to occur. If after six months, you are not satisfied with the appearance of your breast, you can visit your plastic surgeon and discuss your concerns.You can take Motrin in case your plastic surgeon recommended it in case of pain.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS

Swelling is normal after all surgery, and it is more common with increased activity. You should ask your doc if using Motrin at this point is ok.
