Is lasting bruise on my lip from Juvederm injections permanent? (Photos)

Question

I've had a small bruise on my lip since juvederm injections for over 6 months. I did not go back to see the practitioner because I had it done far from where I live, but I am concerned it will never go away, or that she hit a blood vessel or something she shouldn't have. The bruise gets darker when I drink alcohol or work out. If you look closely, some of the thin veins on that same side of my lip appear purple as well. What is this and what can I do about it?

Thank you for your questions. It is common for bruises to occur after lip injections. If your bruise does not resolve after three weeks then is most likely a venous lake. These are ue to trauma or happen without a cause. You do not have to worry as this is nothing dangerous. Veins happen to get bigger or dilate when we eat spicy foods, drink alcohol or work out. This will explain why you see the bruise get worse during these activities. You can have this treated with a pulse dye laser. I recommend having this evaluated by your treating physician to determine a treatment plan for you. Best of Luck!

Bruises from fillers in the lips are always temporary.  If it has been over 3 weeks, and your "bruise" is persisting, it may be that it is not a bruise and it is rather a venous lake.  Venous lakes are due to trauma or else can happen spontaneously without cause, or even if you just bite your lip.  They can easily be treated by a Board Certified Dermatologist.  There is nothing dangerous about it and it is nothing to be worried about.  Veins tend to dilate or get bigger when we eat spicy foods, alcohol or when we sweat, which explains why you have noticed it gets worse when you drink alcohol or work out.    Veins can also be easily treated with Vbeam laser (pulse dye lasers).  Good Luck!
