Question

Why is one of my eyes appear to look bigger than the other only in pics? Front facing camera it looks the same size and also in the mirror. But when someone takes a pick of me, my eyes appear to be different sizes?? How do my eyes really look to people who see me? I did have a cut on my upper eye as a child. Can this be the cause?

Mild facial asymmetry is normal, and sometimes it is exaggerated in photographs where we tend to express and use our facial muscles more. Thank you for that great question and posting your photo. Your complaint is quite common. We grow accustomed of seeing ourselves in the mirror and do not recognize our asymmetries, but when our faces are reversed in a photograph the asymmetries really become apparent. You do have a little extra skin on one eyelid which can be left alone. If it is very bothersome to you, make an appointment for consultation with an Oculoplastic Surgeon. Good luck.

Thank you for posting your case and photos.  I definitely see the change in the appearance in your eyes.  Rarely, certain conditions like an abnormal thyroid can cause this to occur.  Schedule a consultation with a board certified oculoplastic surgeon to discuss your case.  Good luck!

Dear felghazali, You have a very common complaint and most patients have varying degrees of asymmetry that are more apparent in photographs then when you are simply looking at yourself in the mirror. You have a little excess skin on your eyelid and appear to over compensate by raising your brow which adds to the asymmetric appearance.
