I just had a consultation with a Dr. I’m getting my umbilical hernia repaired but still undecided about a full or mini tummy tuck (the Dr. gave me both options). The full tummy tuck was quoted at only $600 more, so cost is not a factor. I guess I’m leaning toward a full tummy tuck because that would get rid of more stretch marks. I have some above my belly button that I know won’t be removed with a mini. Suggestions please?!
Answer: Full tummy tuck, a mini would not be an option Thanks you for submitting your photos and question. You definitely need a full tummy tuck to tighten the muscles, repair the umbilical hernia and remove the excess skin.

Answer: Procedure recommendation Thank you for your question! Based on your photos, I would recommend a full tummy tuck with 360 liposuction. This procedure will give you the flattest stomach possible, by repairing muscle separation to the abdomen, and removing the excess skin and fat. A mini tummy tuck, wouldn’t not address the stretch marks above the belly button, as the full would. I recommend consulting with a board certified plastic surgeon, who can assess you in person, and create a personalized plan for you. Best of luck!

Answer: Full or mini tummy tuck w/ hernia repair Based on your photos you appear to be a good candidate for the full tummy tuck. The full tummy tuck will allow the surgeon to more completely address abdominal wall laxity versus the mini. I think you will have better results with the full.

Answer: Mini vs full TT Thank you for your question and photos. A mini-tummy tuck is a good option for patients who do not have excess upper abdominal skin as well as minimal separation of the upper abdominal muscles. For patients who suffer from a significant amount of skin excess, laxity above the belly button, a full tummy tuck does a better job tightening the muscles and removes more skin. Both of these can be combined with an umbilical hernia repair. Best of luck.

Answer: Full or mini tummy tuck w/ hernia repair? (Photos) A short scar TT (The shorter scar it leaves is the same length as that of the mini TT) tightens the muscles, and removes skin and fat. The incision is so low that bikinis may be worn afterwards. It creates a scar which is flat all the way across and is not a smiley face. This way the ends of the scar never rise above low cut clothing. The umbilical hernia can be repaired at the same time. Ideal patients have to be in general good health and somewhere close to their ideal body weight. To make sure that the results of the procedure last, many doctors ask that patients maintain a steady body weight for six months prior to the procedure and maintain their weight after the procedure. Generally, patients require only one or two weeks to recover. Patients are advised not to perform strenuous exercises for four to six weeks after the surgery. Most PSs would recommend that you wait at least 6 weeks before lifting greater than 10 lbs. Kenneth Hughes, MD, ABPS Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Los Angeles, CA
