After my sclerotherapy, I took and Advil by mistake. Is it going to affect anything?

On the same day of my first session of Sclerotherapy, I took Advil 500gr to kill the pain and now I m worried if it is going to cause any sorts of problem..I'd be more than grateful if you answer back.

Thank you for your question in regards to sclerotherapy/spider vein treatment. Taking an advil post treatment should not cause a problem with your sclerotherapy session. To be sure what is best for you, see two or more board-certified providers in your area for a complete evaluation to make sure you are a good candidate and that it is safe for you to have treatment. I hope this helps.

There is a theoretical reason to avoid medicines like ibuprofen/advil during and after sclerotherapy treatments but in my opinion it is unlikely to make a significant difference. The medicine or sclerosant that is injected causes the targeted veins to close by promoting clotting of those veins and medicines like advil can thin your blood a bit which can in theory counteract the desired effect to some extent. I have not seen a big difference however in my practice. The most important thing is that you wear your compression stockings to help keep the treated veins collapsed. As long as you do that, you will likely have good results anyhow. I would not worry too much about it.

Taking advil after sclerotherapy should not cause any problems.  I often recommend medications such as this to relieve minor aching or soreness of the treated veins and I have never seen any problems in doing so.  
We really just advise avoiding these medications BEFORE sclerotherapy so that there is less bruising at the treatment sites.  After therapy it is fine.

Taking advil post sclerotherapy will not affect your treatment in any way.  If fact, advil, motrin or ibuprofen are commonly recommended for any post sclerotherapy discomfort.

It is fine to take advil after treatments. Though some doctors believe it can make the bruising after injections worse, bruising is inevitable and will take 1-2 weeks to resolve regardless of the advil.

It should not be a problem taking Advil for the pain and inflammation. However, as general recommendation try to avoid strenuous exercise such as aerobics, weight training, bicycling, or running for one week. Avoid lifting more than 20 pounds for two weeks. Walking is encouraged. Wear compression stocking for a period of 1 week during the day, and stay out of direct sunlight for 3 weeks following the procedure or wear sun block or protective clothing if you are outdoors.
