Question

I had my varicose veins removed roughly 6 months ago and everything has been fine up until 3 days ago, I woke up and straight away I was in pain all coming from the top (groin) area going to the rod (wire) that's killing my vein off, I've been taking ibuprofen and it's helped but now the same area has flaired up red, I'm a bit panicky and would appreciate any help thanks dave

Its not normal to have that response after vein treatment specially 6 months ago and if you were doing perfectly fine all along. I recommend seeing the provider so that the area can be evaluated for infection.

The posted pictures look like cellulitis which is an infection of the skin.  It is most unusual for this to occur 6 months post a closure procedure.  I would recommend oral antibiotics, an ultrasound of the area and immediate follow up with your treating vein physician.  The cellulitis may or may not be related to your prior procedure.

As with any medical procedure, please follow up with your vein specialist for any concern about side effects and/or worsening signs. Using ultrasound to scan your leg(s), your physician can follow up on vein closure treatment and patency of the deep and superficial venous system. Treatment plan depends on clinical assessment and new ultrasound results.   Best,

It appears as if you have developed a cellulitis or infection of the area.  I don't believe this is related to the vein treatment you had 6 months ago.  You need to be seen by your physician and started on antibiotics if it is indeed infected.

Your leg appears very red. I would be worried about either an infection or phlebitis. I would seek immediate attention with your physician.

I would recommend ultrasound,
If the skin has infection,it should have warmth to touch.
Go to your doctor ASAP or go to nearest ER/urgent care to rule out DVT (deep venous thrombosis)

Sorry to hear this.  Based on the pictures, it appears to be cellulitis or infection.  I would see the treating doctor or your PCP right away.  After 6 months it is unlikely to be related to the procedure.Also, most techniques to treat veins to not leave anything inside the body afterwards.  So there should not be a "wire" or catheter like we used still there.  Those are removed.  Sometimes a cord is palpable, but that is residual scar tissue from the treated vein that is slowly absorbed by the body.Good luck to you,Dr. Powell
