I tell my own patients that "When" is up to you, but "How" is up to me.You cannot lay on your belly for a while after surgery. Each patient is different, as are their sexual activity levels. If you cannot lay on your belly, then neither can your partner.Unless your incisions are well-healed and durable, then it is not safe to vigorously manipulate the breasts, which sometimes happens during sexual activity. So that too is out for a while. (Not sex, vigorous breast manipulation!)Gentle, quiet intimacy may be just what you and your partner need, but not if it tears open your incisions. So stay off that sex trapeze, and avoid anything that raises your blood pressure or pulse (including sex, thank you very much) for a couple of weeks. There are other ways to please each other and have nice intimacy that will not damage your surgical result, tear open incisions, or cause a hematoma requiring re-operation.Bleeding is actually more likely between day 10 and day 27 (my own personal statistics over 28 years), so you are well-advised to either delay sexual activity or take it really easy if you feel this is a must-do right now! Best wishes! Dr. Tholen
