6 months post op Rhinoplasty, the tip of my nose looks swollen. Is this normal? (photos)

Hello! I had a rhinoplasty done on 08/01/2015 and I am satisfied with my result but above tip area looks so swollen from the start so it makes me feel worried. I know it is too early to judge but seems like I see no changes in it. And when I touch this area it hurts like a swelling but it is solid like a bone in the same time. Can you take took please and give your opinion? Thanks

Swelling after rhinoplasty will impact the appearance of the nose and usually lasts 9-12 months in most patients. After 6 months, mild swelling results. Open rhinoplasty often leads to more swelling of the tip.Your profile view demonstrates a polly beak. I do not see much improvements over time.

The nasal tip is the last area of the nose that the edema leaves.  This is especially true if an open rhinoplasty approach was utilized.  Edema in this area generally resolves after 12 months.  However in thick skinned individuals I have seen the edema improve up to 18 months after surgery.  I would suggest you follow up with your surgeon regarding management of this issue as there are a multitude of conservative methods to expedite the resolution of the edema.  You may also be a candidate for injections in the supratip area to minimize excess scar tissue formation. It is vital to be patient with this healing process before entertaining another surgical procedure.

At 6 months, you will still have swelling in the nose. This can take up to a year to resolve. Best of luck with your result and be patient.

It is not unusual to have persistent swelling in the tip region for months and even up to a year after your surgery. The nasal tip has the thickest skin compared to other areas of the nose which is why the swelling can persist in this region. I would recommend following up with your rhinoplasty surgeon to determine if there is anything that can be done in the office(steroid injections, nasal taping) to expedite the swelling. The nose is always firm and stiff while healing and will gradually soften up over time. Have patience and make sure you follow up consistently. Best of luck.
