Can I have surgery with Crohn’s disease? (Photo)

Question

I had paid my deposit and was about to pay in full and my dr dropped me as a client because i have Crohn’s disease where i have been off of medications for two years because i was in remission. Even my Crohn’s doctor felt safe with me having the surgery. I am 35, 5”3 weight 128lbs and no other health issues. No bleeding disorders.

Thanks for your inquiry, well controlled Crohn's Disease is not a contraindication for a Mommy Makeover in my practice,  clearance from your gastroenterologist is a bonus.  If you are on any medications for Crohn's they may need to be manage differently around surgery to protect optimal healing, good luck.

Great question!  Yes, you can certainly have surgery even though you have Crohn's Disease, as long as you don't have any other medical issues that would make your surgery higher risk.  It is especially easier that your disease has been controlled without medications for some time.  I have been able to perform cosmetic and reconstructive surgery on several patients in your situation without any issue.  I can certainly answer any other questions that may arise.

Most plastic surgeons feel that well-controlled inflammatory bowel disease alone is not necessarily a contraindication to elective cosmetic surgery.
Following the advice of anyone on this or any other website who would
presume to tell you exactly what can be done without taking a
full medical history, examining you, discussing your desired outcome and fully informing you about the pros and cons
of each option would not be in your best interest. I would suggest that you have a consultation with another plastic surgeon that
you are comfortable with and one that you trust and listen to his or her
advice. The surgeon should be certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
and ideally a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
(ASAPS).
