How does shaving the nose bridge to create a curve affect the appearance of the nose from the front?

Dorsal hump reductions are usually accompanied by osteotomies to break the nasal bones at their base and bring them together at the bridge. This is done to avoid a wide appearing dorsum, avoid an inverted V deformity, and an open roof deformity.

It is for this reason that we perform osteotomies in everybody who has a profile bump removed. The purpose of the osteotomies is to narrow the upper and middle thirds of the nose. I hope this answers your question. Sincerely, Dr Joseph

In general, it is more straightforward to produce a narrower appearance of the nasal bridge than to produce a narrower appearance of the nasal tip.
A reduction in projection of the bridge will require a degree of repositioning or thinning of the nasal bones, or a combination of the two, in order to create a narrower appearance, or at least to maintain the definition of the bridge from the front view.
Ultrasonic instruments assist significantly with this type of changes and have demonstrated their value in a variety of ethnicities and techniques.

Hello and thank you for your question. The frontal view can also be improved with rhinoplasty without making it flat. This can be accomplished with a number of maneuvers including controlled osteotomies.
