Question

18 days post necklift. Incision along tragus edge.Last couple days feels like tragus is pulling outward.Holding phone up to ear is odd feeling as hitting tragus.Very uncomfortable.Area in front of tragus is puffy and looks large.Will the outward pull subside and relax tragus as swelling goes down or will it pull forward more as swelling subsides? Appears incision is moving more towards face. Looks like large triangle in front of ear. Feels like getting worse rather than better.

It is still very early into your healing. Recovery from a neck and facelifts do vary per person. This process can take from 2-6 months for face, neck and cheeks. Muscle weakness may also be present around the mouth especially if liposuction is used. Some degree of firmness or lumpiness under the skin is normal after surgery and will resolve with time. Local #massage of the areas may accelerate the resolution of this problem, which normally takes 2-4 months to disappear completely. It is during this time that the rejuvenating effects of the procedure will become apparent and the real result will be seen. If you have certain concerns about the #healing process, it is recommended to call your board-certified surgeon or their medical staff and discuss those #concerns.

Thank you for your question. I suggest that you discuss your healing process with your board certified facial plastic surgeon. Typically, the patient would be experiencing swelling and bruising in the first few weeks of the post op process so you should see improvement over the coming days. You're only 2 weeks out. The right looks great. Left is a little more noticeable. Are you sleeping more on that side?  Do your best to avoid the pull that is generated in that area while you sleep on that side by using a soft fluffy pillow and sleeping on your back. Put a few pillows under your knees to make yourself more comfortable.

Yes, swelling is typical and can take up to 6 months to have your final results with a neck lift. Since you're concerned, I recommend following up with your Doctor for a formal evaluation. To improve final results, I recommend a combination approach with thermage/venus legacy and Kybella/Ultherapy. It is very early to determine exactly how all will settle from your procedure.  It appears that there is some tension on the tragus, but you really cannot tell where or how this is going to rest once all of the swelling and healing has passed.  Be patient and try not to worry because it may very well relax just fine.  If it is a long standing problem it could easily be addressed after several months have passed.

You are very early from your surgery.  The incisions are not well designed.  They are also swollen and angry.  It is only 18 days out from surgery.  These should quiet down and be less ugly.  For now, I recommend styling your hair in front of the ears.  Give this a couple of months.  If it is still not satisfactory at 6 months, yes it is possible to revise these scars.

Thank you for the great question. At 18 days you are still very early in the post operative period. In some patients such as yourself the incision can pull onto the face as it is healing. During the early stages after surgery the scars are firm but they will soften with time. The swelling should improve with time as well.
