I just one a Breast augmentation today with a plastic surgeon that I researched thoroughly. While seeing him today, I was told by him that I have synmastia and that it could affect how my Breast will look. If I get a breast augmentation and wear a " thong bra " immediately will it help to avoid this issue?
Answer: What is symmastia? thank you for your question.A photograph would help with your assessment. Symmastia is nothing more than breast being able to touch the other breast without cleavage. Typically symmastia happens when Implants are placed above the muscle and one implant is touching the other implant because not enought tissue was left undamaged during the surgery to prevent them from touching or when the implants are placed below the muscle and the muscles is cut too far and rips. this allows the implants to communicate with the other side. It can be a hard problem to fix and sometimes requires special breast mesh to correct. If you were born with symmastia it can sometimes be corrected with simple liposuction. I don't believe that any types of bras will help prevent the issue As it needs to be surgically corrected. I hope this helps. I would recommend getting several consultations for board-certified plastic surgeons To make sure that you get a consistent opinion About what your options are. Good luck. Answer: Can symmastia occur after breast augmentation. Symmastia (implants being able to touch each other in the midline without a separation between the breast) can occur after breast augmentation. Some women can have detached sternal skin overlying the chest bone and can start with a "symmastia" appearance.I'm confused though a little by your question. I don't know if you have already had surgery, or if you are just planning to have surgery.I hope you are able to find the help that you need.

Answer: Symmastia. If I get a breast augmentation and wear a "thong bra", will it help to avoid this issue? Yes, patients undergoing breast augmentation surgery should understand that their starting anatomy will play a significant role when it comes to the final outcome achieved with breast augmentation surgery. In your case, the use of a "thong bra" is an option but not critical when it comes to avoiding postoperative problems. Much more important: careful breast implant pocket dissection and selection of appropriate breast implant ( size/profile). My best advice: select your plastic surgeon carefully. Make sure that he/she has significant experience achieving the types of outcomes you will be pleased with. Then, communicate your goals carefully, as well. Working together you will come up with a good plan to achieve your goals. Best wishes.

Answer: What should I do to avoid symmastia following breast augmentation? Thanks so much for your question. It's difficult to really have symmastia prior to having a breast augmentation. Symmastia is where there's a connected pocket between your two breasts. However, you may have pectus excavatum which is where your sternum is indented. That's a very different issue from having symmastia. Symmastia can only really be created following a breast augmentation. So I'm sure you don't have that prior to having had surgery. It's difficult to say anything more specific without examining you ir atleast seeing photos. Maybe have a more detailed conversation with your surgeon to make sure you fully understand the different aspects so everything makes sense. Good luck.

Answer: Symmastia. If I get a breast augmentation and wear a "thong bra", will it help to avoid this issue? Thanks for the question. The thong bra can help support the area but more important is leaving enough tissue in the cleavage area down to prevent the implants from touching each other and thereby causing the synmastia. Your preoperative anatomy will determine how much cleavage is safely achievable. good luck!
