Is there a certain surgeon that would be more ideal for a later/temporal brow lift, i.e., someone who specializes in facial rejuvenation or oculoplastics? I'm having trouble finding a doctor in my state with many brow lift reviews, much less a temporal. I prefer someone who performs these regularly. Am I being overly concerned about a procedure that's relatively simple? I'm worried about nerve damage, scarring, and overall outcomes, such as symmetry and natural appearance.

Answer: Lateral / Temporal brow lift Hi, It's ok to be picky and choose wisely, so you're not being overly cautious. You just have to look for the right things. Facial, oculo, or general plastics doesn't really matter for this procedure ... it just comes down to a plastic surgeon that does good quality work, cares about their patients, and has experience in performing the procedure.Reviews are important, but be careful and read between the lines. We have many very happy patients that send cards, flowers, gifts, and tell us that they are beyond happy ... but we do not often ask for reviews, and when we do, patients frequently forget to do them. Our favorite reviews are the ones where patients leave reviews without us ever asking, but that is very rare. As far as reviews specifically for lateral brow lifts, that is VERY rare. Usually this procedure is combined with other surgeries such as an upper bleph, facelift, etc ... The scar is hidden in the hairline, but it is important to avoid tension closure and over cauterization to prevent hair loss around the incision. I personally have not seen any significant hair loss or scar issues with good technique ... but it is a possibility. Nerve damage is perhaps the biggest concern with this procedure. It is very important to stay in the correct plane (layer) to avoid this. Any surgeon that has done and continues to do this procedure should be very well aware of this and use great caution. Symmetry is not something that any surgeon can promise. The face is overall not symmetric and there are things that we can correct for, but then there are some that we have no control over. For example, the overall height of the orbit (bone) can be different. In other cases it might be the muscle that is elevating one brow higher than the other, and this can be mitigated with improved balance of muscle tone ... especially if it is due to compensation for a lower lid. Natural appearance is achieved by lifting the brow in the correct direction for your specific case. Review this during the consult by trying different directions. Go to several consultations and feel out the surgeons. It's worth the consult fees to get a few assessments and compare.

Answer: Find an expert I do several browlifts each week. Lateral brow lifts are done right in the office as a come and go procedure. It may simply be that in your region this is not common.
