Thanks for your question -Successful fat grafting requires fat viability. This means that the fat must be harvested in a way to insure that it survives and that it must be placed in areas that will encourage rapid neovascularization of the transplanted fat.The ankles can be challenging because fat transfer below the knees is associated with higher complications (reduced fat survival, increased infection). Scars or irregular contour deformities will be easier to correct than a general "thin ankle". You may risk contour deformities because there aren't significant amounts of muscle or fat to camoflauge fat transfer.Be sure to speak to a board certified plastic surgeon with experience with this technique.
Depending on the tightness of the skin in the lower part of the leg, a complete correction can be obtained with one or multiple sessions of fat transfer. The amount of fat that can be moved to this area is only restricted by the firmness of the tissues. The tighter the tissues, the less fat can be moved in one procedure. However, even in cases of very tight skin, additional procedures can be performed at 6 weeks intervals that will lead to complete correction.
We use fat grafting on the face and on the body regularly. It is an excellent technique. However, there are areas that are better recipients than others. The ankles are relatively poor recipients for the fat. The skin is tight and there is little supportive tissue for the fat. However, this doesn't mean it will not work. The key is to plan on injecting the area several times to build up volume over time. This strategy can work very nicely. Good luck.
Fat grafting is a very useful technique in augmenting tissues in different areas. The ankle is a very tight area, however, fat could be injected conservatively to help in augmenting the tissues.
Hi Sigal, There are many non-surgical treatments that can make you look younger, rested, and healthier. I would not recommend cheek implants unless you like that Wayne Newton/ Dionne Warwicke full and unnatural appearance (works well for Las Vegas strip entertainers). Fat transfer is an...
Large volume fat transfer for buttocks augmentation is very popular at this time and can be performed safely. Make sure you choose a plastic surgeon who does this procedure frequently. Some people caution that this trend or fad of having a large, full behind may not be considered aest...
The subcutaneous layer of fat that envelopes the nasal cartilages is thin and uniformly distributed. Fat transfer can be theoretically performed on the nose but is not technically easy or clinically reliable as a method to improve skeletonization of the nose.
Fat transfer can be done to improve the fullness and contour of the cleavage portion of your breasts- this may hide some irregularities along your sternum. The skin over the sternum is thin and tightly adherent to underlying connective tissue- thus fat grafting to the sternum itself is not...
I'm surprised that you were told that there were 10-20 injection sites for a whole face. We use 10 at the most and I can't imagine why you would need more. Having said that I have never seen a scar from an injection site. Not that it couldn't happen, but it must be extremely...
You will not know the result of your fat transfer for 6-12 weeks. Two weeks is much too early to know the outcome and it is usual and expected for there to be bags under the eyes in that time frame. If you trust your surgeon and he/she has good results you likely will too. Be patient, it will be...
