An unattractive neckline may have many causes: loose skin, excess fat, large glands, a short jaw bone or under projecting chin. A combination of these factors often exist. Improving the neck can be accomplished by correcting the cause. Liposuction with skin tightening can be accomplished with minimal incisions and is usually effective for mild aging changes. Surgical correction may be indicated for more prominent necks, and this may include open fat removal of the deep fat, tightening of the platysma muscle or suspension of prominent submandibular glands, and modification of the bony jawline, usually with a chin implant. There are 2 locations of fat in the neck, these are sub-platysmal, and sub-mental. As long as the skin tone in the neck is adequate, a neck lift will address removal of both of these deposits of fat in addition to a platysma-plasty. A platysma-plasty will be required after the sub-platysmal fat has been removed. After submental Smartlipo it is best to wear your compression garment. Throughout your healing process continue to wear the garment as well as follow up with your surgeon. A cold compress will not necessarily help with healing. Good luck!
After having submental Smartlipo it is normal to have a slight numb feeling. Post procedure swelling, bruising, and numbness may occur but they will subside within the next few weeks. Continue to wear your compression garment and attend your regularly scheduled follow up appointments.
Likely it is a lymph node that responded(swelled) to the "trauma" of the procedure, however, it can sometimes represent a fluid collection--which can be treated. Have your surgeon evaluate it. The numbness and firmness in the liposuctioned area is expected. Give it time, it will improve.
