How to get a sharp jaw line? (Photo)

Question

Hi, I'm just wondering what kind of surgery would I need to have to achieve a sharper jawline similar to the girl in the other image. I just feel as if my chin is too big for my face, it makes my face look too long but I'm not sure which is the correct surgery for what I want. Thanks.

Thank you for your question and photo. Improving the jaw line with plastic surgery for younger patients generally involves some chin surgery. Chin augmentation with implant or sliding genioplasty (ie. bone advancement) can improve the jawline. Neck liposuction will further define the neck and jawline for appropriate patients. For patients with sagging skin and neck muscle, then a lower face lift or neck lift might be required. In general, a sharp jaw line starts with having enough bony projection in the chin and angles of the jaw. If you have skin excess or a little extra fat, that can camouflage an otherwise sharp skeletal framework. If that framework is deficient, then a chin implant is a great choice. Localized liposuction of skin tightening may also be suggested, depending on your examination.

You might also benefit from dermal filler injections further back along the jawline to improve definition between the jaw and neck.
