Hello, I am currently going on 2-1/2 weeks since my open nose Rhinoplasty. My hump was removed and my nose was suppose to be straightened out. I am very disappointed to say that my nose looks the exact same leaving me with so many questions. Should I be concerned this early? Can the cartilage have memory and just go back that quick? It seems as my nose is changing every day (for the worse) is this normal? Please help..
Answer: Early post-operative results after rhinoplasty At only 2.5 weeks no real assessment can be made about your rhinoplasty results. This being said it does appear straighter than the pre-operative photos. The tip will appear the same (even if changes were made) for some time after surgery. During rhinoplasty, changes are made to the shape of the bones and cartilages of the nose. The skin has to then re-drape over this new structural shape. This takes time and initially makes the nose appear swollen and similar to the pre-operative shape. It is important to express your concerns to your surgeons for their reassurance.

Answer: Open Rhinoplasty Your nose does look a little straighter and perhaps may improve more when the swelling improves. It is too early to judge the results. The upper nose--nasal bones seems to be where you were deviated. That does not have memory.

Answer: Early postoperative results What type of procedure did you undergo? A closed-reduction of nasal bone fractures or a formal rhinoplasty. If it is the former, many times there still may be asymmetries due to limited manipulation. If this was a formal rhinoplasty, it is far too early to assess your results as your nose will continue to change over the next several weeks to months. Relay your concerns to your surgeon who will be able to provide a reasonable timeline of events to expect certain results. Best wishes!

Answer: Unhappy with Initial Result It is too soon to know what the final result from your rhinoplasty will look like. You still have significant swelling that can take up to one year to fully subside. It is wise to direct your specific post-operative questions and concerns to the surgeon who performed your procedure.

Answer: Nose looks the exact same after Rhinoplasty? How long has your nose been deviated? Is it the result of a relatively recent trauma or has it been that way since childhood? If it is a long standing issue, your skin can have memory and the nasal components can develop inherently asymmetrically and must be individually adjusted. Originally your nasal bones deviated to your left, the midvault to the right and our nasal base was asymmetric. All components look better, though it is concerning that you feel the result seems to be moving in the wrong direction. The opposite should be true, slow but steady progress. If the reconstructon was done component by component the result should be stable and improving daily, skin memory being the limiting factor.Hope this helps............give it some more time and see if things get better
