Suture removal is usually very quick and not uncomfortable after these procedures. Most of our rhinoplasties are performed closed with incisions inside the nose only so the sutures are all dissolvable (no sutures are removed). For our blepharoplasties a suture is pulled out at a week after surgery and just takes a few seconds (patients usually say they barely feel it). Every surgeon is different though so check with your surgeon regarding his or her specific technique.
Typically the procedure will last less than 5 minutes, and will be mildly uncomfortable. Nothing compared to the discomfort of undergoing the actual surgery.
A lot will depend upon how the sutures replaced. Simple sutures can be removed usually with very minor discomfort. This would apply to the eyelid operation as well as the rhinoplasty.
Based on how patients react, I would say stitch removal for blepharoplasty is very tolerable (1/10) and rhinoplasty is sometimes just a little uncomfortable (2/10). Hope this helps.
Thank you for your question. The rhinoplasty sutures are inside the nose and dissolve on their own. If the surgeon did an open rhinoplasty there are small sutures near the base of the columella (where the nose meets the middle of the lip) that need to be removed. Similarly the small sutures of the eyelids need to be removed as well. Removing sutures is quick and usually pain-free or most, mildly uncomfortable. It's normal to be apprehensive, but patients handle suture removal very well. Best wishes to you.
In our practice, the stitches that we use to close the incisions for a rhinoplasty are dissolvable and fall out in about a week. For a blepharoplasty we use dissolvable stitches on the upper lids, and tissue glue on the lower lids which both fall out in about a week. Stitch removal is not required, so there is no pain associated with the removal
It is quite common to lose the sense of smell initially after rhinoplasty. This is often due to swelling and usually gets better with time. Best of luck.
Hi,Shield grafts are intended to add shape and support to the tip of the nose. They have to be carved just right in order to achieve a narrow tip that looks natural and less bulbous. If the are to large the can make the tip look bulky of bulbous. See video below.Best,Dr.S.
