Thanks for your question. The Obagi Blue Peel is a medium depth peel that is fairly aggressive. I would recommend avoiding exercise that would cause you to sweat for 72 hours and mild exercise until you are finished peeling around day 7 or 8. Overheating and sweating can cause post inflammatory hyper-pigmentation that can take several months and other treatments to lighten. Always best to err on the side of caution. Take it easy and enjoy your results. Best wishes.
Following a medium depth TCA peel, it is important that your body temperature remain normal. Heating as a result of increased activity, exposure to a hot environment etc, increases the risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This is especially true for individuals with darker skin. I typically tell patients to wait until all of the signs of redness and inflammation have resolved. This typically occurs by 2-3 weeks.
Each individual is different, but Obagi peels may be superficial to medium depth peels. Depending on the actual depth of peel, healing may be anywhere to a couple days to a week or so. Regardless, I tell all patients who have a superfical peel to avoid anything that raises blood pressure or pulse for 1 week, and medium depth peels 2 weeks at minimum. This activity restriction includes aerobics, yoga, exercise, heavy lifting, and sex. Sweating and body heat from exercise may compromise your results, and may risk skin infection. Light walking may be started earlier, however.Lastly, all resurfacing patients must follow the guidlines provided by their cosmetic specialists strictly. Speak with your specialists about any concerns you have.
Donna, Unfortunately, superficial chemical peels will not tighten the skin much. Lactic acid usually creates a superficial peel with recovery within a couple days. Medium depth & deeper peels may tighten the skin over a few months after the initial peel. However, there is a longer recovery...
Hello, Stopping smoking will allow you to heal better after any procedure you might have to address these problems areas. Cigarette smoking decreases the blood supply to the skin (amongst other areas) and this is never good. Quitting has many benefits. Good luck!
Hello, Epidermal hyperpigmentation tends to be short lived and/or easily corrected with the medications you are using. The fact that the improvement is minimal hints that the problem may be deeper. Hopefully you are getting professional help with this to help focus your erfforts.
