Will talking after rhinoplasty affect my results?

Question

I am two weeks post- rhinoplasty. I had refinement of my tip, nose broken to straighten it, and a small bump removed. Will talking a lot affect my result or increase swelling? Am I better off avoiding excessive talking and facial expressions to help my swelling to go down more quickly and my face to feel normal ( not so tight) faster?

Dear herecomesthesun07,Thank you for your question. I usually tell my patients to talk and laugh minimally during the first 48 hours post-operatively and  for the first few weeks to just take it easy. The best thing to do for swelling is to stay in an upright position as swelling dissipates with gravity. However, if you are having concerns, I suggest following up with your operating surgeon to see what their specific recommendations are for you. Best of luck to you!

I always believe that it is important to keep a stiff upper lip during rhinoplasty recovery.  This allows that attachments to the lower septum to not be disrupted potentially leading to tip drop (ptosis).I hope that this helps

Congratulations on your recent surgery. There is no restriction on facial expression or speech after rhinoplasty. As with any procedure, 60-80% of the swelling will be gone by the 6th week, with the remainder subsiding over 6-12 months. The nasal tip takes the longest to achieve definition.
