Can I use a blackhead nose strip for removal so soon after surgery?

Hello, I had my surgery done and 10 days ago and had the splint taken off yesterday. My skin is absolutely awful, oily and raised blackheads on the nose (as expected). The doctor said I can wear make up so this includes removal of make up. So my question is, can I use a blackhead nose strip for removal so soon after surgery? Thank you for your time

Thank you for your question. I would recommend not using any adhesives or aggressive skin treatments to your nose this soon after surgery. The area is very delicate and you want to treat it as gently as possible for the first few weeks. Hi there, I advice my patients to not use any type strips on their nose for 3-6 months after surgery, just to be extra cautious.

Great question! While the reality is that you will probably be OK regardless, I would  advise against using anything that causes upward force on your skin this early after surgery. In the first few weeks after surgery you are trying to help the skin settle back down so it can heal to the deeper structures of your nose. 
Using things with strong adhesive like blackhead tape will do quite the opposite and can prolong your healing and swelling (edema). In patients with thicker skin, I will sometimes replace tape after the cast is removed. This new layer of tape helps keep down the swelling and is generally removed in a gentle fashion (using a dissolvent like detachol) to avoid causing the upward tension on the skin when removed. Things like blackhead tape essentially the exact opposite of this.
The good news is that now that your cast is off, you can resume a good skin care regiment which will help re-stablilze your skin balance. I would bring this up with your surgeon as they may have a different preferred regimen. Warm regards!
