Hello. I used to have active acne skin, but now it’s not active anymore. I have a Microneedling appointment tomorrow. They told me to stop my skincare that containt active ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. I did that since 4 days ago. But now I’m getting al these small whiteheads? I think it’s because my pores are getting clogged. I do use a gentle cleanser and moisturiser. But I want to know why I am getting al these whiteheads and what I fan do about it?
Answer: Microneedling can help clear clogged pores caused by products with excess oil that often cause closed comedones. Fractional laser is an amazing and highly effective treatment in our office. We use the laser treatment to help with acne scars, large pores, fine wrinkles, tissue collagen loss, scars, sebaceous hyperplasia, active acne, and for brightening dark pigmentation. Although there are very strong fractional lasers such as CO2 laser, we use lighter treatments for corrective skincare and maintenance of results. Our Thulium fractional laser, clear and brilliant laser, and Ultra Thulium laser are excellent options in our clinic. We also perform CO2 fractional and erbium depending on skin tone and tolerance for downtime. Patients do have to use a Melarase cream before and after treatment to help further reduce pigmentation after laser. Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads can seriously improve surface sun damage and UV related pigmentation. Dark spots can improve with these treatments. I recommend fractional laser for incisional scars as well, especially after plastic surgery. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: It's common to see a small breakout after discontinuing active skincare ingredients It's common to see a small breakout after discontinuing active skincare ingredients like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, especially if your skin is accustomed to them. These ingredients help to keep your pores clear by exfoliating the skin and reducing inflammation. When you stop using them, your skin might produce excess oil, leading to clogged pores and the formation of whiteheads. It could also be a reaction to new products you've started using since discontinuing your regular acne treatments. If you've introduced any new products, consider stopping them to see if your skin improves. In preparation for your microneedling appointment, it's essential to keep your skin as clean and hydrated as possible. Continue using a gentle cleanser and moisturizer. You might also want to consider using a non-comedogenic oil-free moisturizer if you're not doing so already. Do not try to pop the whiteheads, as this could lead to further inflammation and potential scarring. If the breakout is significant, it might be worth discussing with your skincare professional before your microneedling appointment. They may advise you to reschedule the appointment until your skin is clearer to avoid potential complications or suboptimal results. Please remember that while this advice is intended to be helpful, it's always best to seek advice from a healthcare professional or a skincare specialist who can examine your skin and provide personalized advice.

Answer: Microneedling Hi, thank you for your question! I would recommend contacting your provider to see if they are still able to treat. Mirconeedling can spread bacteria from the active white heads. I would recommend to wait until they are gone to treat the area.
