Age 58 & have webbing from upper eyelid surgery (13 months post op), advice on revision? (Photos)

Question

Hi I am 58 years old and had upper eyelid surgery Feb 2023 (13 months post op). At 5 weeks I noticed webbing and asked my surgeon for steroid injunctions but he refused. I am now left with horrible webbing and need some advice please from people who have had a revision regarding webbing or any surgeon who has a proven track record of webbing revision as I’m so scared going forward with more surgery . Thank you I also have dents on my lids

I would always advise to massage the scars regularly for 1 year to allow them to fully mature. The scar on the outer part of the upper eyelid will likely flatten on its own. Any residual bulk in this area can be treated with a steroid injection. The scar on the inner part of the upper eyelid has now hopefully settled. if it hasn't, a scar revision would be necessary.

HI Dazzling426515, I am a board-certified plastic surgeon in San Francisco and perform upper and lower blepharoplasty. Based on the photos you have shown, I would say that your healing is on the spectrum of normal. You are still early in your postoperative course and likely have some swelling that will settle. It is difficult to say whether this is true webbing of the inside corners of your eyes (called your inner canthus) based on the photos you have shown and how early this is after surgery. I agree with your doctor, I would not do steroid injections this early as the side effects can be thinning the skin, widening or lightening the scar and impairing wound healing. I usually do not offer a revision or injections before 6 months postoperatively to give the tissues adequate time to heal.
