I have recently gotten my nipples pierced, and i would like to get a breast reduction in 3-5years time. i know the piercing would have to be taken out during the procedure but what about after surgery can they be put back in? nipple piercings close really quick even if fully healed and i’ve looked online and everywhere says something different. i would just like to know if i’ll still have my piercings by the end of it or will i have to get them repierced?
Answer: Surgeon dependent Wearing nipple piercings following a breast reduction should not interfere with the overall outcome. Swelling following the procedure may limit the ability to pass the piercing through the tract easily and you want to make sure you're not putting pressure or tension on your incisions when trying to replace the piercing. Generally swelling and discomfort reaches a peak on day three and begins to subside, which may make it easier to replace the piercing. The exact recommendation would depend on your plastic surgeon and your post op healing. -Dr. H

Answer: Piercings Your piercing should remain in place even after your breast reduction surgery. There can be nipple sensitivity changes especially in the initial postoperative course. During the procedure the nipple and areola is repositioned. The piercing should not be affected.

Answer: Nipple Piercings and Breast Reduction After your breast reduction surgery, you will need to remove your nipple piercings as part of the procedure to ensure sterility and prevent interference with medical equipment or the surgical process. It's important to give your body time to heal after surgery before attempting to replace the piercings. Generally, surgeons recommend waiting at least six weeks post-surgery, or until your incisions are fully healed, to prevent irritation or infection. During the initial healing period, swelling and discomfort can make it difficult to reinsert the jewelry, and you’ll want to avoid putting pressure on your incisions to ensure proper healing. While some women can keep their piercings intact after breast reduction, it's important to note that the surgery can potentially affect the alignment of the nipple, especially if the nipples are repositioned. The piercing channels might also become altered, making it challenging to reinsert jewelry without discomfort. If your piercings close, you may need to have them re-pierced after you’ve fully healed from the surgery. To prevent the holes from closing, some people opt for non-metallic retainers, but you should always discuss this with your surgeon to ensure it’s safe for your specific situation. Ultimately, whether you can keep your piercings will depend on your healing process, but re-piercing is typically possible once you're fully healed. Best wishes on your journey!
