Hi I had a neck lift and it left a raised scar aroun 1 ear but I also have skin discolouration. My consultant says just to keep massaging. It has been nearly 10 months now, is this normal ?
Answer: Vbeam treatments can help with pigmentations of the scar Plastic surgery scars require attention after surgery so that they remain cosmetically-appealing and barely noticeable. In our office, we use a protocol for scars that minimizes their activity in the 6-8 weeks after surgery. If you have late plastic surgery scars, you may also require laser and RF therapy to help reduce the longterm effects of the scarring. Keloids, hypertrophic scars, widened scars, red scars, and hyperpigmented scars all require scar modulation with topical creams followed by lasers and RF therapy. Topical skincare should be directed to a specific need, whether for pigmentation or hypertrophy and our office can guide you through the process to obtain the correct Plato’s Scar cream or Melarase cream for hypertrophy and discoloration. In terms of lasers, we would employ the vbeam laser for redness, Venus Viva RF, PRP microneedling, chemical peels, and Morpheus 8, fractional erbium, or fractional co2. All of these have their individual benefits. Most of all, we recommend you visit a solid plastic surgeon who understands surgical scar revision, laser therapy, and RF therapy for scars. Answer: 10 months post neck lift - should I be concerned about discoloration and scarring around the ear? Ten months after a neck lift procedure, some degree of discoloration and scarring is still possible and can be considered normal in many cases. However, the extent of scarring and discoloration can vary greatly from person to person. It's important to keep in mind that the healing process can take up to a year or more for some individuals, and the appearance of scars can continue to improve over time. If you have concerns about the discoloration and scarring around your ear, it's essential to consult with your plastic surgeon. They can provide a personalized assessment of your condition and recommend any necessary treatments or interventions. They may suggest scar creams, laser therapy, or other procedures to help improve the appearance of scars and discoloration. In the meantime, you can take steps to minimize the risk of further complications by following your surgeon's post-operative care instructions. This may include avoiding sun exposure, using sunscreen, and keeping the surgical area clean and moisturized. Remember that every individual's healing process is unique, and it's crucial to consult with a healthcare professional for guidance specific to your situation.
