Answer: Considering procedures I would encourage you to return to the surgeon who performed your liposuction to discuss your interest in further treatments. She/He is most familiar with the details of your surgery and how you've progressed through recovery. Your surgeon will advise if a fat dissolving treatment would be recommended for you.

Answer: Fibrosis and fat dissolving treatment Dear Passionate315742, I understand your concern. However, without a proper assessment, it would be difficult to determine what went wrong. It is best that you visit your plastic surgeon for further assessment or ask for a second opinion. Only after a thorough examination, you can get proper recommendations and advice. Answer: Understanding fibrosis Fibrosis it’s not some unusual conditions but just happens to some unfortunate people. The term fibrosis is a word used to most often only describe patients who’ve had poorly done liposuction that was much too aggressive removing almost all the fat often done in an uneven fashion. The aggressive treatment causes the body to respond by forming excess of scar tissue. forming excessive scar tissue is by itself not a problem if it can be blended with a sufficient layer of it evenly distributed subcutaneous fat. The The less fat that remains the higher percentage of scar tissue in relationship to fat and the more uneven the fat distribution the worse it appears. The treatment is not removing more fat or having more surgery because that will make the problem worse. Fat dissolving injections are highly inflammatory and cause more scar tissue to form You didn’t include pictures so we can’t make an assessment and without that we can’t give you a recommendation. Consider posting proper before and after pictures if you want to get an assessment and proper recommendation. Alternatively schedule second opinion consultations with other board-certified plastic surgeons in your community. Delivering consistent quality liposuction results is more difficult than most people believe and the truth is a substantial number of plastic surgeons despite being board-certified and having years of experience are not particularly good at Liposuction. Liposuction should be viewed as a permanent and irreversible operation. For this reason patients should be very careful when choosing providers for this procedure. If done poorly patient can be left disfigured and this is irreversible and cannot be corrected. Defined a provider has sufficient skill to deliver consistent quality results with Liposuction patient should have multiple in person consultations before committing to having surgery. During each consultation ask each provider to open up their portfolio and show you their entire collection of before and after pictures. Some providers may be apprehensive to do this and then will stead show you a handful of preselected pictures most likely representing the best results of their career. being shown only the best results is completely insufficient to get a clear understanding of what average results look like or confirmation of how many of these procedures that provider has performed. Ask the provider to show you as many pictures as possible of patients who have similar body characteristics to your own. For the reference and experience surgeons should have no difficulty showing you at least 50 sets of before and after pictures of commonly performed procedures like abdominal liposuction. Ask the provider to show you examples of excellent outcomes, average outcomes and less than outcomes. Providers who fail to open up their portfolio or show you a significant enough number of pictures should just be avoided and you continue on to your next consultation. There’s no exact correct number of consultations needed to find the right provider but I suggest patient start with at least five consultations and simply continue having more until you feel very comfortable you found a sufficiently experienced and talented provider. After the fact it’s too late to go through the vetting process and recognize that revision of work is many times more difficult than primary Liposuction. What can be achieved with a Revision Work is typically quite limited. That is not to say improvements can’t be had. Treatment options for badly done liposuction typically include revision liposuction, fat to transfer, a combination of both and in some cases converting the procedure to a skin tightening operation like a full tummy tuck if the patient is a candidate for that option. Consider posting with proper before and after pictures. If you don’t have before and after pictures you should contact your surgeon and ask them to forward the ones they took. If you do that you should also ask for a copy of your operative report. if you opt to have second opinion consultations come prepared with copies of both the operative Report and all before and after pictures taken by your provider. I do not recommend patients have virtual consultations or travel long distances for elective surgical procedures. Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
